Lisa's Story

Lisa’s Story | Outside My Wire

This Mother’s Day we shared yet another Outside My Wire story.

Dillion Naslund completed suicide after serving deployments in both Afghanistan and Iraq. Now his family heals by helping other veterans and their families who are in the same situation.

How the project came together | At Ease USA

At Ease USA supports active military, veterans and their families and loved ones with confidential, research-supported, cost-effective treatment for post-traumatic stress (PTSD) and related disorders. After seeing previous Outside My Wire stories they wanted to help another veteran share theirs. Only this time, it was going to be a bit different. Though this was Dillion’s story, it was Lisa, his mother who would tell it. This was a perspective we had never captured before and we knew we had to do it right.

The plan was to capture the story for Outside My Wire, and also create a shorter version of Lisa’s story that could be played during At Ease’s event on May 22, 2017.

The Shoot

Lisa's StoryOur team traveled to Galva, IA in early April to meet with Lisa Naslund, Dillion’s mother, her husband Jeff and their family. This was a shoot we knew was going to be harder than those we had  previously worked on for Outside My Wire. Dillion had unfortunately lost his own internal battle, and we had to do him justice. We promised Lisa that we would return her baby the way she had given him to us. And now looking back, we know with confirmation from her and her family we did just that.

Lisa's StoryOver the course of two days, Lisa and Jeff allowed us into their home. We shared meals, laughs and tears. We felt the compassion and understanding, the hurt and the anguish that their family has gone through. And the hope that their actions can help someone like Dillion and other families like themselves so that they never have to go through what they are dealing with now. Lisa has since co-founded Operation Engage America with another family in California who have lost their son.

About Outside My Wire

Almost two years ago now, our team sat down with Dan McGuinness to talk about his Complete Nutrition transformation story. We had no idea the story that would soon unfold. Dan was a veteran who dealt with some of the darkest things that we as humans go through and he opened up about them during that interview.

We, along with Dan, knew other veterans needed to hear his story and have a place to share their thoughts and emotions. From there Outside My Wire was born.

We continue to share veterans stories across the United States. And we donate the edit as a way of saying thanks to those who share their story.

The Impact

In 24 hours the Outside My Wire full version of Lisa’s Story was viewed almost 10k times. Now 48 hours after it has been viewed 12k times and shared 167 times. Only $60 was spent on boosting. The amount of organic views it has gotten and shares in such a short amount of time is tremendous. Several strangers have already reached out to Lisa and we know that means the world to her.

Stories like Dillion’s truly make an impact on those who are going through the after effects of war, along with their families finding that their son, daughter, loved one just isn’t the same anymore. It is important to let them know they are not alone, that there are resources for them and that they should reach out to their “battle buddy” now, before its too late.

We thank the Naslund family for sharing their story with us and those who need to hear it most.

NAIFA | Insight Series

The NAIFA Insight Series is just another way Frost Media Group is helping our clients add value for their members.

But before we get into the Insight Series, what is NAIFA you ask?

National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA) is one of the nation’s largest associations representing the interests of insurance professionals from every Congressional district in the United States.

NAIFA’s mission is to advocate for a positive legislative and regulatory environment, enhance business and professional skills, and promote the ethical conduct of its members. (naifa.org)

As an added benefit to members, the local Nebraska chapter wanted to interview “leaders” from the field and share their tips, tricks, advice and everything in between.

We interviewed a diverse group of NAIFA professionals and they each had valuable information that members young and old could relate to and learn from.

Each video created from those interviews lives on its own landing page which NAIFA pushes out via emails blasts each week.

Creating a video series that allowed members to gain knowledge in their field while furthering NAIFA’s mission was a great value add. In addition the landing pages incorporated email capture, encouraging current members to share with peers that may be interested in joining NAIFA.

Give STL Day | Planned Parenthood St. Louis Region

Frost Media Group increased Planned Parenthood St. Louis donations on Give STL Day 2016 and here’s how we did it!

With the St. Louis community’s 2016 annual Give STL Day approaching, members of the Planned Parenthood St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri’s (PPSTL) leadership team decided it was time to take their fundraising efforts to the next level.

A celebration was also in order.

Vivian Zwick, a Planned Parenthood volunteer for over 40 years, turned 99 years old in 2016. It was also Planned Parenthood’s 99th year of operation nationally.

PPSTL wanted to ask the St. Louis community to help honor both milestones by raising $99,000 on Give STL Day, a goal more than three times the total amount raised through the annual giving day the year prior.

Similar to past PP campaigns, the PPSTL campaign featured a series of videos, email blasts, postcards, landing page and social media posts.

In this case, the videos told Vivian’s story and highlighted the work of PPSTL through interviews. A few scripted videos thanked Vivian for her work, and the icing on the cake was a video birthday message to Vivian from Planned Parenthood Federation of America president Cecile Richards.

Goals for the project:

  • Raise $99,000 for Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri
  • Plan and execute a creative, comprehensive marketing strategy for the campaign using multiple integrated channels
  • Increase current PPSTL donor gifts
  • Draw first time donors to Planned Parenthood

Campaign Results

PPSTL surpassed its goal and raised more than $100,000 for Give STL Day through the campaign while also increasing awareness among its audiences and arming them with messaging to use within their own circles of influence.

2016 Omaha Gives! | D2 Center

D2 Center’s 2016 Omaha Gives! Campaign was a perfect score!

D2 Center’s  campaign was one of several put on last year  with the help of our friend AdvoKatie.

Like D2 Center’s, each nonprofit’s campaign consisted of videos, landing pages, email blasts and social posts to create awareness throughout Omaha Gives! Day. The videos are now being used throughout the year to show potential donors what their dollars can do for their programming.

Donors were encouraged to not only make a donation themselves, but to share the nonprofit’s mission and stories with their friends, families and colleagues, so that they could donate as well. Making the giving that much bigger!

Donors could scroll through tabs with videos that touched on the many programs that the D2 Center has in place for hopeful high school seniors. Creating a custom landing page allowed for multiple videos and copy that pushed their mission.

Our videos put viewers face to face with those that they are impacting with their dollars while also giving them a call to action following their give. See the videos here.

2016 Omaha Gives! | Intercultural Senior Center

Intercultural Senior Center’s 2016 Omaha Gives! Campaign brought awareness to the diversity of our seniors in Omaha.

Intercultural Senior Center‘s campaign was one of many put on last year  with the help of our friend AdvoKatie.

Each nonprofit’s campaign consisted of videos, landing pages, email blasts and social posts to create awareness throughout Omaha Gives! Day. Not to mention the videos continue to be shared to donors long past last year’s giving day.

This push encouraged donors to not only make a donation themselves, but to share the nonprofit’s mission and stories with their friends, families and colleagues, so that they could donate as well.

2016 Omaha Gives! | No More Empty Pots

Thanks to AdvoKatie in 2016 nonprofits like No More Empty Pots got a boost during Omaha Gives! Day.

No More Empty Pots
connects individuals and groups to improve self-sufficiency, regional food security and economic resilience of urban and rural communities through advocacy and action.

Last year we had the opportunity to help them bridge the gap on Phase 1, a shared-use commercial and production kitchen space in their Food Hub.

The Food Hub will include commercial kitchens, a community café, and cold/dry storage. The hub will support job training, workforce readiness, food waste reduction and the list goes on.

With the help of our friend AdvoKatie, nonprofits like No More Empty Pots had videos, landing pages, email blasts and social posts to create awareness throughout Omaha Gives! Day.

This push encouraged donors to not only make a donation themselves, but to share the nonprofit’s mission and stories with their friends, families and colleagues, so that they could donate as well.
