Having a child with special needs can often be a frightening and lonely experience. It’s easy to feel isolated and like no one else understands what you are going through. Sometimes the biggest help for these parents is just knowing there is someone they can talk to, whether that is another parent in a similar situation or professionals in the healthcare or education industries. PTI Nebraska understands this need and exists to fill that void that appears when parents of special needs children feel they have no one to turn to.
With a tagline of Informed Parents = Improved Outcomes for Families, PTI Nebraska is a statewide resource for families of children with disabilities or special healthcare needs. They empower parents and provide them with the knowledge and capacity to improve the education and healthcare outcomes for the children. They do this by providing a network of other parents to connect with, information on their child’s educational or healthcare needs or as a resource to present at workshops or seminars.
Frost Media Group, an Omaha based video production company, had the opportunity to see PTI Nebraska in action when we attended the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) State Conference in Omaha in early April. Staff from PTI Nebraska presented on healthy collaboration between parents and teachers of children on the autism spectrum.
Their presentation engaged both parents and teachers and shared great information on how they can work more closely together in an autistic child’s educational process. We were impressed by their knowledge on the subject as well as their ability to bridge the gap that sometimes exists between school and home.
We filmed the PTI presentations as well as interviews with the PTI presenter and teachers and parents who attended the conference.
Pairing the actual presentation with the interviews of those who were impacted by it was a great way to show other organizations what a valuable resource this is. PTI Nebraska intends to show this video on their website and social media and will also incorporate it into presentations to other conferences who might want to bring them in as presenters.
We always enjoy telling the stories of great organizations who are really helping people in our state. PTI Nebraska provides an incredible resource to those who are raising a child with special needs and we enjoyed making a video for them that really gets their message across.
